Scratches, stage by stage
Swirls and light marks come out with the polish, from AED 799 or inside the AED 999 Full Detail. Deeper scratches need paint.
Can car detailing fix scratches?
Car detailing can fix scratches that sit in the clear coat, the swirl marks, wash marring and light scuffs that make paint look grey in the sun. It does not fix a scratch that has gone through the clear coat to primer or metal; that needs paint. The machine polish does the fixing, and it is inside our Full Detail from AED 999, or on its own from AED 799 as car polishing.
So the honest answer depends on where the mark lives, not on the word detailing. A detail is a sequence of stages, and each stage touches a scratch differently. Some lift marks that were never scratches at all. One levels real ones. One only hides them. Walking through the stages in order is the quickest way to know what your car will get back.
Not scratches, but a surprising share of what looks like one. Tar flecks, bird droppings, dried bug splatter and the dusty streak left by a sleeve brushing a door all sit on top of the paint. The snow foam, hand wash and clay bar pass lift them off, and the line you were sure was a scratch simply disappears. It is worth knowing before you book anything bigger.
Run a wet finger over the mark once the panel is clean. If it vanishes while wet and returns when dry, it is in the clear coat and a polish will take it. If it is still sharp and white, keep reading.
It levels the clear coat around the mark until the mark has no edge left to catch light. Clear coat is a thin layer, and a polish removes only a sliver of it, so the work suits fine scratches, swirls from brush washes and dry dusting, and the faint rings left by irrigation overspray. On a dark car in direct sun the change is large, because swirls are what turn black paint dull.
A deeper scratch gets lighter rather than gone. We would rather tell you that from your photos than polish the same spot until the paint runs thin. For how far a polish goes and when a second stage is worth it, our polishing stages guide lays it out.
The sealant that finishes the exterior adds gloss and a protective film, and a bright surface does make faint marks harder to see. But the thing doing the fixing is the polish before it. A sealant over unpolished paint only sits on the swirls, which is the case against buying a wax or a coating as a shortcut.
That order matters most if you plan a coating. Ceramic locks in whatever is underneath, so the paint is corrected first. Our ceramic coating starts at AED 1,999 and goes on after the polish for exactly that reason.
Anything that has gone through the clear coat. A key line you can feel with a fingernail, a stone chip showing grey primer, a shopping trolley scrape down to bare metal: those are missing paint, and no amount of polishing puts paint back. A detailer who promises otherwise is selling machine hours that cannot reach the damage.
For those marks the right order is a paint repair first, then a detail to bring the rest of the car up to match. Send us photos and we say which camp the car is in before anything is booked.
| What you can see | What we would book |
|---|---|
| Swirls and dullness across the whole car | Full Detail, from AED 999, polish included |
| Paint is the only problem, interior is fine | Polishing, from AED 799 |
| A few marks near door handles | Often a wash first, then a spot decision from photos |
| Scratch you can feel with a nail | Paint repair, then detailing |
If the cabin also needs work, the Full Detail is the better value, because the polish costs you little extra inside it. If you are weighing polish against a plain wash, the detailing versus washing shows what each one leaves behind.
Most of what a detail removes was put there by washing and wiping. Brush tunnels, a dry cloth over a dusty bonnet and a single dirty sponge all drag grit across the paint. Hand washing with clean tools and never dry-wiping dust keeps a corrected finish looking corrected. Our mobile car wash is done by hand for that reason.
Before you book
It removes the ones in the clear coat, such as swirl marks and light scuffs, through the machine polish. Scratches through to primer or metal need paint repair.
No. A polish softens a deep scratch but cannot rebuild missing paint. If a fingernail catches in it, expect a paint repair rather than a detail.
Yes. The Full Detail from AED 999 includes a machine polish alongside the interior deep clean and a protective sealant.
Polishing starts at AED 799. Your exact price is confirmed on WhatsApp from photos before the visit.
Wash the panel, then look at the mark in direct sun. If it shows grey, white or metal at the bottom, it is through the clear coat. Send us a photo and we will tell you.
One close photo and one of the whole panel. The reply says whether a polish will take it or whether it needs paint.
