A large SUV with two years of swirl marks needs more correction time before the coating, and that is where the difference comes from. What does a ceramic coating actually do?

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds chemically with your clear coat and cures into a hard, glassy layer. Water beads and rolls off instead of drying into spots. Dirt and dust struggle to stick, so a weekly wash takes half the time. The deep gloss you see on showroom cars comes from that cured layer sitting over freshly polished paint.

• Chemical resistance: bird droppings and tree sap sit on the coating, not the paint
• Easier washing: most dirt releases with low pressure, no aggressive scrubbing

Is ceramic coating Dubai's answer to summer paint damage?

It is the closest thing to one. Summer surface temperatures on dark paint here regularly pass 80°C, and the UAE weather service logs UV index values in the extreme band for most of the year. Uncoated clear coat oxidises under that load, and hard water spots bake in within hours of a sprinkler hitting the car. A cured ceramic layer takes that abuse first. Sand is the other Dubai reality. A coating will not stop a sandstorm scratching paint if the car is wiped while dry, but it does keep fine dust from bonding to the surface, so the safe rinse-first wash actually works.

What happens on the day?

Nothing is required from you except a parking spot. The van carries its own water and power, which is how we coat cars in tower basements and villa driveways alike, anywhere in Dubai, and Sharjah on request. Decontamination wash, clay, machine polish, panel wipe, coating, then a controlled cure. Plan for the car to sit still for the rest of the day. Aftercare is simple: no washing for a week, then any gentle hand wash keeps it working.

Aftercare that keeps the coating alive

The coating does the defending; you just have to not undo it. The first week is the only strict rule: no washing at all while the layer finishes curing. After that, the routine is short. Rinse before you wipe, so desert dust floats off instead of dragging across the surface. Use a pH-neutral shampoo, because strong degreasers eat into the coating's top layer wash by wash. Dry with a clean microfibre, never the squeegee at the petrol station. And skip automatic brush washes entirely: they are the single fastest way to grind years off a coating. New car or three years old: does timing matter?

Less than you would think, and in a way that surprises people. A brand-new car is the cheapest to coat because the paint needs minimal correction, so booking within the first month of ownership gets the best price and locks the finish in at its peak. But a three-year-old car often shows the bigger transformation: the polish stage removes the accumulated swirls and light etching first, and the coating then holds that corrected finish. What we will not do is coat over damage. If the paint needs repair rather than correction, we say so before any money changes hands, because a coating makes whatever is underneath it permanent for years.
